Volunteers are an important part of the United Nations work globally. Using their professional skills, UN volunteers support UN agencies, central and local governments to achieve their development goals.

It is due to their efforts that volunteerism was recognised by the UN Secretary General in his post 2015 Synethesis report as a complimentary way of implementing the new development agenda.
